The wines of ChileChilean Wineries
Our wines from the Chiliean Wineries offer a taste of the following wineries:
Cousiño MaculThe Cousiño Macul winery, now in the hands of the sixth generation of Cousiños, will undoubtedly continue to write the history of this nation's proud winemaking tradition. It is not surprising that the well-known wine expert and writer Hugh Johnson described Cousiño Macul as "The first growth of Chile."Concha y ToroIn 1883, Don Melchor founded, together with his wife Doña Emiliana Subercaseaux, the Concha y Toro vineyard. He brought to Chile, as did other visionaries who were establishing vineyards at the time, the best grape varieties of the Bordeaux region: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot, and Carménère.Vina Casa Silva, Colchagua, ChileIn 1892, Emilio Bouchon - fresh from Bordeaux - established the first wine cellar in Chile's Colchagua valley. Five generations later his descendents, the Silva family, produce award-winning Vina Casa Silva handcrafted wines from vines he planted. Vina Undurraga, Chile
Don Francisco Undurraga, an enterprising man in the 19th century, was one of the pioneers of winemaking in Chile and founder of Viña Undurraga.
With plants he brought over personally from France and Germany and under the supervision of the renowned French viticulturist M. Pressac, he
developed the first vineyards in the Santa Ana Estate, which was named in honor of his wife Doña Ana Fernández Iñiguez. This estate, located in
Talagante, 34 kilometers from Santiago, in the heart of the Maipo Valley, received its first plantations of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc,
Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer in 1885 and by 1903, the first shipments were being made to the USA.
