The wines of Central ItalyTuscany - White WinesFattoria di Felsina BerardengaI Sistri is a superbly rich oak aged Chardonnay from the Chianti estate, Felsina Berardenga. Deep colour, distinctive vanilla oak, and a lasting powerful dry finish highlight the winemaking skills of this fine estate at its best.
Central Italy - White WinesGran SassoMore often than not Trebbiano is a run of the mill, fairly neutral grape, but with careful vineyard practice and lower yields suprisingly good wine can be produced. Crisp in character, a bit of substance on the palate and a lively, clean finish.
SalvianoSince 1995 this estate has been owned by the same family who are patrons of the great Sassicaia property. This aromatic white has crisp acidity and good depth.
Cantine BelisarioAn unoaked, fresh and minerally white from mid-altitude vineyards. Organically produced although the vineyards are still waiting accreditation.
Carlo DamianiTwo good value wines from the now increasingly popular Pinot Grigio grape. The smooth and lemony dry white is accompanied by the subtle strawberry flavours of the Rosé, a new phenomenon to the UK wine trade.
Tuscany - Red WinesWhere the Sangiovese grape is King, Tuscany produces some quite brilliant red wines. The most famous, of course is Chianti. However Carmignano provides an exceptional wine, full rich and smokey with length and great depth. Cantine LeonardoVoted "Great Value Red Wine of the Year" in the 2002 International Wine Challenge, Antonini is the consultant here too, a busy man?, but the quality to cost ratio is quite remarkable.
Riccardo FalchiniA charming man who has been producing wines for forty years. Bright and balanced with the telltale firm Finish. Exceptional value.
Isole e OlenaWe have bought wine from this exceptional estate for 10 years. Seductive and supple now it has the stuffing to last a decade or more. If more wine growers were as conscientious as Paolo de Marchi there would be many more quality individual wines around.
Conte BonacossiA perfect partner to a nice fillet of beef!
Tenuta di ArgianoGiacomo Tachis, the consultant winemaker at this stunning property, is revered in the winemaking world. We sell our allocation of this wine every year and always eagerly await the new vintage.
Azienda Agricola CannetoDark and sensual these rich and stylish wines have lush cherry flavours. The Rosso di Montepulciano is a velvety ripe wine, the Vino Nobile is a complex and distinctive warming wine of great depth. Both wines are produced from the Sangiovese grape.
