The wines of New Zealand - North IslandMorton Estate, KatikatiNew Zealand wineries are increasingly looking to regionality for their wines. Here, Morton Estates, originally established in 1978 in Katikati, have expanded their vineyard holdings and grape sources to Hawkes Bay and the fabled Marlborough region on South Island, This is because they, along with many other New Zealand wineries have found that different vineyard areas suit certain grape varieties more aptly. \their excellent Sauvignons are very typical, the Mercure is a lush and opulent red and the two Pinots are voluptuous and aromatic redolent of their kind.
Ata Rangi Vineyards, MartinboroughOne of the most noteworthy and in demand estates in New Zealand, tremendous concentration of flavour hallmark the wines of Ata Rangi. The Célèbre is truly marvellous, an intoxicating, layered wine full of summer fruit flavours. The Pinot Noir is an ICON that sells out immediately on release on the domestic market; delicious at any stage if you really want to get a taste of what this funky Pinot fuss is all about, try to stash a couple of bottles away for five to six years.
Stonyridge Vineyards, Waiheke IslandWaiheke Island produces some of New Zealand’s best red wines. The Stonyridge is much sought after and is one of the icons of the "New World" and has enviable concentration and depth, again available only in tiny quantities.
