The great Port Lodges of Portugal

A little information about port and its styles

The fermentation of the wines is arrested by the addition of grape brandy which kills the yeast leaving residual sugar giving the unmistakeable sweetness one finds and enjoys in the finished product.

Tawny Port

Tawny Ports are aged in barrel until bottled ready for immediate sale, losing the deep red colour and taking on a lovely amber hue. They are charming wines, warm and smooth with rich fruit flavours and licquorice undertones.

Vintage Port

Vintage port is from one single year; aged for two years in cask and then bottled. Produced with ageing in mind they slowly mature and evolve over long periods of time in to fabulous graceful wines

Late Bottled Vintage Port

Late Bottled Vintage wines are produced by all the houses. They are aged for five years in barrel to soften them slightly but are still deep in colour and robust.
