Information about KendalKendal is surrounded by the Cumbrian hills and lies in the valley of River Kent which is on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Kendal is mainly made up from limestone buildings and has the bustling daily activity of a market town with a hidden historic past. Kendal Castle offers superb views from the hill behind the town and was the birthplace of Katherine Parr, who was the sixth wife of Henry VIII. There are several attractions to visit including the Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry, Abbot Hall with its displays of Art from Ruskin to contempory lakeland painters or head to Kendal Museum to learn about wildlife in the countryside. Kendal features several "yards", accessed through archways or by passing through ginnels, in Station Yard you will find Stainton Wines. The Kendal Shopping ExperiencePeople who visit Kendal find it a different shopping experience. There are many traditional shops, something you don't see much of nowadays. Farrers Tea & Coffee Merchants on Stricklandgate established in 1819 is worth a visit if you like good tea and coffee. Farrers also have a cafe on three floors which is worth a visit to sample the wares before you buy, they even sell toast from the Staff of Life bakery! An excellent Fishmonger on Stramongate provides local fish and game and even Windemere Char if you're lucky enough to be there early enough on the right day. Kendal is stuffed with traditional pubs, guest houses and hotels and has a wide range of restaurants and cafes. The Elephant Yard Shopping Centre, Westmorland Shopping Centre offer the larger store but are outnumbered by the characterful individual shops. The Flea Market on Monday is must if you like browsing and Kendal has an outdoor market on Wednesday and Saturday. And don't forget Stainton Wines can provide you with wine which reflects the environment in which it was grown. We are totally independent which gives you the customer, total freedom of choice. If you browse our wine list you will see what we mean. Our opening hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 4.30pm on Saturday, we are closed on Sunday.
The construction of our new shop and offices at Station Yard has begun. Using a wooden framed structure, insulated to the highest specifications we are creating an ultra-efficient building with a low emissions and low energy use. The above three pictures are the shop area of the build.
