Zweigelt is a red grape variety that is hugely succesful in Austria. It proves so popular with the Austrian wine drinkers that very little finds its way out of the country, however, we are delighted we have been able to get hold of some from the Ehmosers.
It reminds us of Pinot Noir, quite soft and beguiling with gentle tannins and a smooth mouthfeel; 12-months maturing in large oak barrels adds a certain gravity and enables it to partner perfectly with hard cheeses or lamb really well.
It is also hugely rewarding just to sip and savour on its own.
