Bodegas del Medievo

Established in 2001 by a group of four quality-driven winegrower families, headed by the experienced and talented winemaker Santiago Garde, Bodegas del Medievo is an exciting, innovative winery.

Located in Aldeanueva de Ebro, DOCa Rioja Baja, where the climate is warmer and more Mediterranean, they own 220 hectares of vineyards with Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, Graciano and, more recently, the rare Tempranillo Blanco, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay vines planted.

They are well known as trailblazing innovators and always have something new and tasty in the pipeline (or barrel!).

At the end of 2020, Bodegas del Medievo completed the construction of a new climate-controlled warehouse where they now have capacity to elaborate over 2 million kg of grapes with 2,500 barrels – 80% American and 20% French.

This is not large scale by Rioja standards, but is quite large as far as Stainton Wines’ suppliers go. However, we have always been impressed by the wine quality and offer white, red and rosé wines from the young ‘Cofrade’ range, as well as a Crianza Rioja red, a Reserva Rioja red and a Gran Reserva Rioja red in their Medievo range.

We also list a personal favourite, a rarely seen single variety, Graciano Crianza Rioja red under the ‘Tuercebotas’ label.

It is also worth noting that we almost always have Magnums of the Crianza and Reserva Medievo Rioja and Jeroboams (3-litre bottles) of the Crianza Medievo available also,  which really are a statement piece on the dinner table!
